Chibimoth

Chibimoth is a secondary character in Rewrite, and is Kotori's pet. He appears near the end of the Common Route and has a reccuring role in Kotori's route. Although Kotori claims he is a dog, Kotarou and many other characters frequently comment that he looks nothing like a normal dog. Chibimoth has exceptional strength and speed, despite his small stature.

Appearance

In his dog form, Chibimoth has spiky pink fur, floppy ears with black fur at the ends, black eyes, and a black nose.

In his familiar form his fur is a slightly darker pink, and he has tusks and a trunk. resembling those of a mammoth.

Personality

Chibimoth is very loyal to Kotori and is on good terms with Kotarou. Unlike most minor familiars, he does express emotions occasionally, such as the fear he exhibited when saw the Earth Dragon for the first time, and when Chihaya called him delicious and wanted to eat him.

History

Pero's History: Pero was previously a poor abused dog that had his ears cut off, and was fed onions. As a result he is sensitive and nervous when eating his food, in case there is onions hidden in it, for that reason Pero, Chibi-moths preceding name, prefers dry food because it would be more difficult to sneak the onions that are poisonous to dogs. The abuse left him permanently different and hateful, so he dislikes even his new family, including Kotori and occasionally bites her. When Kotarou and Kotori see each other daily, even if they are opposed to the idea, Pero unexpectedly bites Kotarou's foot, however Kotori pleads with him not to harm him. Eventually Pero releases poor Kotarou's foot. One day, Kotori informs him that her dog is missing, and then reveals that she is relieved Pero is absent, she can have a break, and she doesn't have to strive anymore. But Pero is discovered by Kotarou and after considering kicking him aside, he delivers him back to the Kanbe house, where Kotori is glad but dissapointed with the outcome at the same time. Pero does not live much longer after those events and is reformed into a pet/familiar state by Kotori, no longer a cruel hearted dog, but a loyal, cute one that is a great deal more likable than his former self.

Chibi-moth's History: Chibi- moth has his first appearance in the Common Route where he suprises Kotarou in the forest and then wanders off somewhere. Him and Kotarou seem to get along with each other well, at the very least more so than they used to, in the parallel branch. arguably Pero is actually Chibi-moth's past self. Once when Kotarou was investigating a suspicious place along with Kotori, and then in a particular spot it was like time stopped, and Chibi-moth came to his rescue and didn't help that much but still useful. Chibi-moth's catch phrase is "Mosu! Mosu!" and uses it regularly. He and the Key get along well enough, but do tend to get into small disputes for example when they both picked up the same stick and kept pulling, Kotarou confirms that they would carry on forever if nobody interrupts them, it's common familiar behaviour. However, Chibimoth's end arrives when he must save both Kotarou and the Key, he is able to carry them back to Kotori, as a consequence he must pay the price for the sudden strength boost, and dies, before mimicking the sound of Pero, the dog that never grew to like her, this touches Kotarou and Kotori's heart. He turns to dust, as a familiar should when they cannot continue to exist.

Common Route: Chibi meets Kotarou in the forest , then loses interest in him and walks away. Later on, he is introduced to Kotarou as Kotori's dog, capable of performing several commands. Kotarou and Kotori use him to beat up thugs in alleys, supposedly to "teach them a lesson".

Kotori's Route: Later in the route, Chibi picks Kotarou's unconscious body up in the forest, after he was attacked by the Leaf Dragon and carries him to Kotori's Workshop. When Kotarou becomes Kotori's assistant, he spares with Kotarou daily and got in a fight with the Key (The two of them picked up the same stick) until Kotarou broke up the fight. When the Key escapes the barrier around the work shop, Kotori orders Chibi to help Kotarou search for her. They stumble upon the Earth Dragon in a battle against Guardian's hunters; the dragon kills the hunters and then leaves. As they prepare to leave, Chibi-moth is pierced by a branch thrown by Imamiya. When Imamiya tries to kill Kotarou, Chibi tackles him grabs Kotarou with his trunk and the Key with his tusks and flees the scene. Upon returning to the barrier, Chibi begins to gradually die from the wound inflicted by Imamiya. At Kotarou's request, Kotori severs his feeling of pain in order to ease his suffering, as Kotori and Kotarou say their final goodbyes, Chibi barks like a dog then turns to sand.

Shizuru's Route: Chibi appears shortly before Kotarou meets the Earth Dragon in the forest. He is mortally wounded, he lets out a quiet "Mosu" and subsequently turns to sand.

Trivia

• Chibi is one of the three familars that have been able to change the shape of their bodies; the others being Kagari (Turning into a tree) and Sakuya (Turning into a dragon).
• Chibi-moth's name comes from the term Chibi Mammoth, which means Little Mammoth in Japanese.
