The Planet or The People

Gaia ("Earth" in Latin) is a religious organization composed up summoners, normal people, disciples, and their weapons: familiars.

Gaia has been around for millenia and is led by who the disciples refer to as the Holy WomanSakura Kashima. In Akane's route, her death (being poisoned by Tasakago) leads to the title of Holy Woman being given to Akane Senri. However, due to the fickleness surrounding Gaia's members, some affiliates have strayed from original beliefs, thus splitting Gaia into two groups; the other group being led by Suzaki and The Board of Directors.

Gaia has been studying the earth and has learned that the planet is slowly dieing as a result of humanity's decisions. To save the planet it looks toward the salvation of the Key. However, the Key's salvation will likely bring about a cataclysmic apocalypse that will destroy all of humanity using nature itself as a weapon; saving the planet in doing so. Gaia is opposed by Guardian, a global organisation that seeks to delay the apocalypse by killing the individual known as the Key .

Groups within Gaia

The Holy Woman

The Holy Woman is the one who leads the main branch of the organization. As mentioned by Akane Senri and further explained by Suzaki, the status of 'Holy Woman' is actually a disease that is spread by transcription of the mind. Candidates for the Holy Women are young girls with seemingly no emotions, do not speak, and have no sense of awareness. Transcription could start as any time in the young girl's life; as it begins, all of the previous Holy Women's memories are transferred to the next chosen girl.

As Akane Senri explains; the first Holy Woman was a young girl who could heal people's physical and mental wounds, her talents where so praised that she was heralded as a type of savior. However, people began to call her a fraud and began persecuting her and all of her followers, as she was being burned alive she tried to heal the injured with her power, but the part of the person she healed broke off and turned into a monster, which promptly began to attack people. The girl despaired and burned to death afterwards. Throughout many years many other young girls began awakening as Holy Women; retaining the memories of all the previous women (All of which met horrible deaths). The Holy Woman in its sense is actually a disease which turns the "brain cells" of the next chosen girl into familiars.

Subordinates of the Holy Woman

Sakura Kashima (Current Holy Woman before for death)

Akane (Current Holy Woman after Sakura Kashima's death)

Chihaya (Summoner of Gaia)

Sakuya (Strongest familiar and Chihaka's bodyguard)

Kotarou (If Akane's Route is chosen; bodyguard)

Tsukuno (Akane's Secretary)

Tsuruhashi (Disciple)

Shimako (Holy Woman candidate)

The Board of Directors; Suzaki's Group

Suzaki's Group is a part or Gaia opposed to the idea of destroying humanity in order to save the planet. Suzaki committed a sort of coup d'etat with the disciples of Gaia as well as the holy woman who was Sakura Kashima at the time. He proposed to use familiars as a source of energy in every house hold in order to lessen the damage done by humans to the planet. After Sakura died he split from Gaia and began publicizing falsified information about Gaia to weaken the organization. Mentioned by Akane, Suzaki actually loved Sakura, but could not accept the idea of sacrificing the human race to save the Earth.
